5 Tips for Managing Carsickness
If you’re one of the miserable few who gets car sick, life can seem terribly unfair. While everyone else is enjoying the scenery or buried in their Kindle, you’re counting the minutes until the trip is over.
Here are five tips to help prevent carsickness, or at least keep you more comfortable.
- If you’re going to take medication for motion sickness, take it one to two hours before your trip begins. If you don’t, you won’t get the full effect. Over-the-counter medication is available, but if you need something stronger, see your healthcare provider.
- Ride in the front seat. Riding in the back can have you feeling every bump and swerve, which makes car sickness much worse.
- Don’t read in the car. Try listening to an audiobook instead. If you’re going through a hilly or winding area, this becomes a “must do”.
- Only eat a small amount before traveling. Heavy, rich, or greasy foods can make car sickness, like most other types of nausea, much worse.
- Drink lots of water.
